At Sea
No 407499 Dear Everybody, Am at sea in a fairly big boat. Three of us are in one cabin (deck cabin), large windows not ports, have a private bathroom, all white, built in bath, hot & cold water, a chest of drawers, & a large place to hang clothes in, several large mirrors, bed tables, chairs etc. We have a steward who makes our beds & keeps the cabin clean, we keep things fairly tidy so its not to bad to do. The sea has been fairly rough, the first day I wasn’t so bad, the second day, couldn’t eat anything, but am quite all right now, even though the sea is getting worse. The dining room is enormous, the meals are something that I will never probably see again, the cooking, & the way they are served. We still have a lot of parades, & do P/T & lectures, have three meal parades a day to see if we are correctly dressed etc. I wrote from Melbourne so this is my second letter. We play quite a lot of deck games & with parades etc the days seem to go fairly quickly. A paper printed on the boat is pushed under our door each morning & we are treated as First Class passengers. Hope Mum’s cold is better, & everyone is well. Love, Ray |
