Scotland cont.
Aus No 407499, Dear Everybody, The first letters came on the 27th, the second & the fourth letter, also the Christmas parcel, thanks it was a treat. We had no snow for Christmas, but all the ponds & a big dam near here was frozen, & white frost covered the ground at 1:30 P.M. yesterday the frost was still there. Glad the quail chicks came out, is it possible to ring all the young birds so they can be told from the old birds. Thanks Ethel for the drawing the front & side gardens must be nice, not many flowers in England now its too cold. Second & Fifth letters came today. Am still in Scotland don’t know when we are moving or where we are going. Must write to Lew Dixon some time. Even though we don’t seem to do much, our time seems to be filled, we leave Dunkeith (the house) in the dark & get back after dark. Not much news as we can’t say what we are doing, have three hours flying up till now in a large aircraft, & expect to go up again today. Will someone write a note to Mrs Humphries, 3 Malborough Rd, Westbourne Park, & see if those birds can’t be squeezed out of her, they are paid for with money she owes me for other birds. Nearly all the Australians feel that they should be nearer home, now the Japs are in the war, if only Australia had enough aircraft we might be sent home. My cold is getting better, had (conjunctivitis?) of the eyes with it but am just about right now. Hope Helen is better, & that everyone else is well. Love, Ray |
