Aus No 407499, Dear Everybody, Well we had Christmas in Scotland, not too bad a dinner poultry, potatoes, & Brussels sprouts & custard & apple to follow. Also the sun shone for nearly 4 hours a record for us since we’ve been in England. Thought there might be some mail as a big Australian lot came in but none for me, one boy in our room got 17 letters a cable. Have got the flu & the cold weather here doesn’t improve it any, still I’ll be allright in a few days. Saw by the South Australian Newsletter that rust was bad in the wheat crops it must have been a pretty wet season. Haven’t done any flying or very much morse since coming to England, am doing a new course now. The house we are in Dunkeith is set in large grounds, & what in spring or summer must be a very beautiful garden, nearly all the shrubs have either dropped all their leaves or look a bit shabby. It is a farming area round here, with Prestwick, Kilmarnock, Ayr .. oon, Dandonald, towns within ten miles, while Glasgow is about 40 miles away. Tell Alf, Mrs & the two kids, & Don Mrs & two kids that I often think of them. There are quite a few R.A.F. Sergeants up here with us, they seem to be quite a decent lot, one or two are hard to understand, as they come from different counties & speak with a very broad accent. Hope all well at home, & things are going well. Send me Helen’s Number & address Love, Ray |
