Dear Everybody,

Am now up in Scotland, Dunkeith House, Symington, near Kilmarnock, Aryshire.
Its very cold the sun doesn’t rise until about 20 past nine & as we have to get up at 6:30 AM its pitch dark. Will be up here for at least five weeks, & from here go to an Operational Training Unit for more instruction. I thought we had finished with exams in Australia, but we have a lot to do yet. Ten of us are up here, we are gradually being sent out to different schools, theres only a few left now that are not training. Am getting tired of grey sky, we’ve only had two fairly sunny days since coming to England.

Find it a very hard job to understand the Scotch people, don’t know if they have as much trouble to understand me as I do them. It was actually sunny today for about half an hour sun rose at 20 past nine & set just a few minutes after 5 PM.

Well the Japs are in it now, theres not too much of the world left out now, even America came in she had to after Hawaii was bombed. Bye the way did a Mrs Jamie send a cable from there (Hawaii) she said that she would send one each for four of us, wouldn’t take any money, was one of the Red Cross who gave us a good time there.

Will some one at home, use the movie camera on some flowers or colour theres about 25 feet left on it, set the lens on (f8) on a sunny day & the distance (at the feet from object taken) use only at (f8) on a sunny day Don’t try the others as they are difficult, might as well use the film the developing is paid for when the film was bought. After film has run out (keeping motor wound when using) take camera to Kodak they will remove it & devolip it & will show it for you.

Hope everyone is allright at home,

Love, Ray
